Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers about piano lessons

How Long Will My Piano Lesson Be?

This depends upon your age and ability. Please see ‘Cost of Lessons’ for more information.

Do i need to buy any books when i come for my first lesson?

No, I can advise you on which books you need  when we first meet for a free consultation lesson. Normally books are purchased by me then added to your half termly invoice.

Is it essential that I have an instrument when I first start lessons?

The answer here is yes, as creating a regular practice routine at home is a must.

What age should my child be to start piano lessons?

I teach children from 6 years of age.

Do you have any experience of teaching special needs students?

Yes I have a great deal of experience teaching special needs students

Are you prepared to travel to me for lessons?

No, this isn’t practical as I have a large teaching practice. Lessons always take place in my home in a room solely used for teaching.

What happens if I am unable to attend my lesson in person?

If you are unwell but feel well enough to have a piano lesson then I can provide your lesson on Zoom or a video lesson.

I am also happy to offer Zoom lessons to cover the occasional times when coming to me might not be possible.

I do NOT offer lessons exclusively on Zoom.

Am I able to sit in on my child's lessons?

I feel it’s really important that parents are as involved with lessons as they feel comfortable with. Especially for young students, better progress will be made when parents are fully supportive and understanding of teaching and learning aims. Therefore if you can spare the time even occasionally to sit in on lessons, I’m very keen to welcome you into the studio during lessons.
